History of the Plough & Sail
Plough and Sail Paglesham Essex | Country Public House
This typical timbered building is steeped in Essex history. It has been an inn for at least 300 years, and most of the building is original. Even today it continues to be the centre of Paglesham's activities. This lovely old public house is just a short walk down the lane to the River Roach, famous for Essex boats, and of course oysters!
In 1890 over thirty oyster smacks were working from Paglesham, and The Plough and Sail was the meeting place for the hard working crews.
